Being a newly-wed couple, one thing that my hubs and I pride ourselves on is our excellent communication. We really do communicate fantastically well. We don't let issues bottle up, we are both patient listeners when the other is upset, we have stimulating and fulfilling daily conversations, etc. etc. I would go so far as to say that we are an excellent example of "healthy communication". That is....if you catch us between 7am and 11pm. After 11pm, all bets are off and we cannot carry on a coherent conversation to save our lives!
The first contributing factor is that my husband's ears plug up, promptly at 11pm, every single evening. This is a relatively new phenomenon as it has only been happening since we moved to California. He isn't worried about it. They unplug during the day and apparently he doesn't mind not being able to hear anything I say to him after 11pm.
The second contributing factor is that I am completely disoriented when I am sleepy. I always have been and always will be. I am a sleep talker. Quite conversational really.
When you put the two of us together, it is magic....
3am the dog begins barking LOUDLY and VICIOUSLY in the living room, right outside of our bedroom door.
The hubs sits straight up in bed, says nothing.
Finally, confused, I also sit up.
Hubs: "I think something is going on out there."
Me: "It is the dog."
Hubs: "He is probably barking."
Hubs lays back down and falls asleep.
I yell, "Sleep!" and my head, too, hits the pillow.
Sweet Dreams!!

Yes, I will confirm that this entire story is true. What she isn't telling you is that she is known for saying things (or even having conversations) while she drifts off to sleep. Now, I don't have the best memory so I can't remember every occasion but one of the most recent went something like this:
ReplyDeleteWife: No...
Me: What's wrong sweetie?
Wife: No... Don't do it...
Me: Don't do what?
Wife: ... don't put the chocolate sauce on the cookies and cream ice cream...
(after this exchange, she fell into a deep sleep that I couldn't wake her from. Upon asking about it in the morning, she had no memory of the conversation)

i think your hubs is lying and has found a very creative way to get you to stop talking past 11 pm. ;) for some reason, as soon as we get into bed...i become a chatty kathy. i could talk forever. i will not be sharing this blog with john...he'd probably find it useful. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think that Sean is tired and by 11:00 p.m. is shutting down. This is probably a good thing...if he doesn't hear anything he will get a better rest. Now onto Breezy. I can not say she has always talked in her sleep, but she certainly has for many years. Both my children do. You can actually carry on a conversation with them while they are sleeping that makes no sense what so ever. Sean you really need a tape recorder by the bed.
